Dig It!

We had some real scientists come to kindergarten to teach us about rocks.  Jurassic Judy let us dig for different types of rocks in our science lab. We had to clean the rocks with water before we were able to put them in our bags.

We had so much fun observing and collecting rocks.
When we got back to our classroom we sorted our rocks in many different ways. We began by sorting them by the type of rocks they were. Then we sorted them by luster.

Then we did an experiment to find out which of our rocks were magnetic. These rocks had bits of iron in them.

We also experimented to see which rocks had "secrets" in them.  We dipped them in vinegar and observed if the rocks made bubbles or not.

We learned that some rocks are hard and some rocks are soft. Did you know that a diamond is the hardest rock. Jurassic Judy told us the only way you can cut a diamond is with another diamond. Interesting! We also got to take our rocks home and share them with our family. We had so much fun being geologists!
