Literacy Centers

We have been busy learning how literacy centers work! After we get the hang of it, I will pull small groups for guided reading during this time.

At poetry center we read a new poem each week. Then we illustrate a small version of the poem for our poetry folder.

At word work we learn to make words in different ways. Now we are learning the color words. We write on white paper with a white crayon, then paint over it to watch the color word appear!

At listening center we listen to a new book each week. Then we respond to the text.  For the first several weeks we draw our favorite part. Later in the year we will be recording other responses to text.

At computer center we are learning letters and sounds on Starfall.com.  After we learn how to log in on our own we will be working on Istation during this time.

At library center we retell a familiar book. These friends are retelling The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

At "write the room" we look for words that begin with different letters each week.

At ABC center we will be retelling and completing an activity to go along with an alphabet book for the first nine weeks. Each week we have a new activity and book.
There are some other centers that did not get captured on film. :) Please ask your child what their favorite literacy center is.
