Math Stations

In our classroom we learn math through whole group lessons as well as math stations. Here is a glimpse of what math & science stations look like in kindergarten.

Game Center: Each week a new game is added into this station. Games help kids practice number concepts without them even realizing it. Here are a few pictures of the first game we learned how to play - COVER UP.

Math Literacy: Each week this station will feature a different math book and an activity to go with it. Since our focus the past few weeks has been about recognizing and comparing numbers, one of the books I featured was The Five Little Monkeys. Students acted out the books with props or puppets by taking a monkey away every time. Then they drew their favorite part and wrote the number to go with it.

Tubs - Each week a new activity will be added to this center. Students will always use manipulatives to complete it. To introduce how to use manipulatives as a tool and not a toy, we practiced sorting items with a small group.

Science Center - We also have a science center during math station time. Each week students will focus on a new science concept. The past few weeks we have been exploring our five senses. We record our observations in our science journal, which will be kept at school until the end of the year.
